Job Context

  • BLAST`s research activities support its legal services (individual and public interest litigation, mediation, advice, referral and legal education/ awareness), human rights advocacy and capacity building activities. Since its inception, BLAST has conducted several issue-based research studies on various areas of law, to serve as evidence to support its advocacy, strategic litigation and its various campaigns for law reform The Research Coordinator will identify and coordinate research and intervention opportunities as per the organization`s needs, and lead the team of researchers at BLAST. BLAST research team conducts research studies independently as well as in partnership with national and international partner organizations, such as government organizations, NGOs and national and international universities.
  • The Research Coordinator will take the lead to design, implement and coordinate BLAST`s research activities, including but not limited to field level activities for conducting any research study initiated by the team, coordination with Team Leaders and Consultants etc. The position holder also will be responsible for all kinds of networking; stakeholder management, and engagement with GO, NGO, INGO and Universities for research purposes. S/he will need to have the ability to lead all the assign task independently. The Research Coordinator will ensure research needed to support BLAST`s ongoing campaigns for legal reforms, including but not limited to rape laws, domestic violence, sexual harassment, corporal punishment, family laws, worker`s rights and housing rights for urban poor etc.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead research design: The Research Coordinator will lead the design and planning of research studies as per the needs of the organization and coordinate with Research Team Leaders and Research Consultants in this regard.
  • Stakeholder and field management: The Research Coordinator will be the main point person for initiating and conducting field interventions for any study. S/he will be responsible for maintaining and managing all approvals, documentation, networking and partnerships with GO/NGO for the study purpose.
  • Data management: A key responsibility of the RC will be managing and ensuring quality of data, whether be qualitative or quantitative. S/he will be the point person for data collection to entry and analysis.
  • Taking initiatives for sharing research findings: The RC will be the main point person to take initiatives for sharing the research findings among relevant stakeholders using different methods, including through the organizational website, with the management and advisory body of BLAST and in the electronic and print media and social media. S/he will collaborate with BLAST’s advocacy and Communication teams for wider dissemination.
  • Contribute to grant reports/ work progress reports: The RC will help the team leader to distribute the task within the research team. RC will also assist the lead to develop or produce the draft quarterly and annual project reports. S/He will also contribute to write the draft research report.

  • Identifying new opportunities to generate evidence that supports and highlights BLAST’s key interventions and identifying effective methods of showcasing BLAST’s research findings
  • Lead process for securing research grants
  • Any other tasks assigned by the supervisor from time to time
  • Accomplish any other task assign by the team leader or BLAST management

Educational Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Law/Statistics/Economics/Anthropology/Social Science.

Experience Requirements

  • At least 6 year(s)

Additional Requirements

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in managing research project and at least 2 years in mid-level position
  • Previous experiences in managing/ supporting management of research
  • Proven experience in survey design, data collection, both qualitative and quantitative techniques will be an advantage.
  • Punctual and good at time management
  • Strong relationship building and communication skills
  • Understanding of sensitive and confidential data policy
